How much does a gorilla permit cost in Uganda?

Gorilla permits cost $800 for foreign non-residents, $700 for foreign residents, $500 for African citizens (non-EAC), and UGX 250,000 for East African citizens (2025/2026 rates). Permits are purchased through Uganda Wildlife Authority.

How far in advance should I book?

Book 3-6 months ahead for peak season (June-September, December-February). Low season (March-May, October-November) may have last-minute availability, but we still recommend 1-2 months notice for best sector allocation.

Can you get permits when UWA shows sold out?

Sometimes, yes. We have established relationships and can check availability across all sectors and dates. We can also secure permits through cancellations. Contact us even if online shows sold out.

How difficult is the gorilla trek?

Treks range from 1-8 hours depending on gorilla location. Terrain is steep and often muddy. Moderate fitness is required. Porters are available for hire ($15-20) at the park and highly recommended — they carry your bag and assist on difficult sections.

What vehicle do you use for Bwindi?

We use Land Cruiser V8/VX or Prado for Bwindi due to the challenging roads. These vehicles have the ground clearance, power, and 4WD capability needed for the steep, sometimes muddy roads leading to the trekking sectors.

Can I combine Uganda and Rwanda gorilla trekking?

Yes! We arrange combined trips with gorilla trekking in both Bwindi (Uganda) and Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda). Cross-border logistics handled. This is popular for travelers wanting to see gorillas in both countries.
